I have seen Burt Bees in many stores before and never decided to try this lip balm until now. I picked up two kinds from the GNC store : Burt’s Bees Original Beeswax Lip Balm & Burt’s Bees Rejuvenating with Acai Berry Lip Balm. One thing I noticed about these balms is that they are in a very firm state. The Rejuvenating Acai Berry kind is a bit softer that the original one. I have used other balms that melt on contact with your lips. These however don’t do that, leaving your lips feeling heavily coated. This may be due to the amount of beeswax in these lip balms. A very good thing during the fall/winter seasons in my opinion.

Burt’s Bees Original Balm: Beeswax, cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, prunus amygdalus dulcis (sweet almond) oil, mentha piperita (peppermint) oil, lanolin, tocopherol, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf extract, glycine soja (soybean) oil, canola oil.
Burt’s Bees Rejuvenating Acai Berry Balm: Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Cera Alba (Beeswax, Cire D’abeille), Aroma (Flavor)*, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Lanolin, Euterpe Oleracea Fruit Oil**, Ammonium Glycyrrhizinate, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Tocopherol, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Canola Oil (Huile De Colza), Anise Alcohol, Benzyl Benzoate, Benzyl Cinnamate, Citral, Farnesol, Limonene, Linalool *Natural Flavor **Acai Berry
There are a lot of Burt’s Bees products that are 97, 98 & 99 percent natural sometimes, leaving a small percentage for an added unnatural chemical or preservative. Fortunately, Burt’s Bees lip balms are considered 100% natural, however, I’m not completely sure about some of the ingredients in the Rejuvenating Acai Berry kind; especially since they left some of the suspect ingredients off the description on the Burt’s Bees website. On the other hand, I like that these lip balms are not tested on animals and the containers are recyclable.
Rosemary
Rosemary helps strengthen the capillaries and has an overall stimulating effect. Rosemary is also a rich source of vitamin E (alpha tocopherol), another effective antioxidant that adds to its free radical fighting abilities. Recent studies reveal that rosemary helps prevent cancer and age-related skin damage (aging).
Final Thoughts
I found it nice that the original Burt’s Bees lip balm has a cooling effect but to be honest, the cooling is very overpowering. I wish they had toned down on the peppermint oil. As for the Rejuvenating Acai Berry version, the smell is nice. I can’t say that I’d prefer to wear either on the everyday basis. I will however keep the original one handy for really cold weather. Overall these balms are very good. I can recommend these to a friend looking to find something better than Chapstick or Carmex. I can’t say that this would be my top recommendation though. I would say add this to your collection of lip balms.
